ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Green Bay women's soccer team's 2022 season opener at St. Thomas was cut short after multiple severe weather delays in the second half of the game. The Phoenix trailed the Tommies 2-0 before a lightning strike stopped the game in the 53rd minute.
The teams will attempt to resume and complete the game at a later date if possible, but for now, it's a no contest with no stats counting.
St. Thomas grabbed an early lead in Thursday's game thanks to a pair of goals just seven minutes apart in the first half. Jasmine Gates opened the scoring in the 20th minute, followed by Mariah Nguyen in the 27th. The hosts had a 7-3 shots on goal advantage before the stoppage. Senior
Emily Murphy had two of the three shots on goal for the Phoenix.
