EVANSVILLE, Ind. – After a flurry of goals in the second half, the Green Bay men's soccer team grabbed a 3-1 win over Southern Indiana on Thursday at Strassweg Field. The win boosted Green Bay's record to 2-0-1 overall.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The scoring didn't start until the second half when Chris Album scored his first career goal for the Phoenix in the 62nd minute. Album's goal was assisted by Josh Johansen.
The Phoenix doubled its lead almost immediately to 2-0 on a goal from Luca Contestabile -- his first goal of the season -- in the 66th minute, assisted by Michael McDougall.
Green Bay went ahead 3-0 on Andrew Paolucci's 79th-minute goal, his second of the season. Kajus Kontautas assisted the goal.
The Screaming Eagles got on the board with an 88th-minute goal from Brian Winkler to avoid a shutout.
GAME NOTES
- Paolucci's 79th-minute goal puts him at the top of the leaderboard for goals scored for the Phoenix this season (2).
- Jeloni Murray-Powell and Kajus Kontautus received yellow cards for GB.
- Tobias Jahn piled up two saves for the Phoenix out of seven total Screaming Eagles shots.
- Green Bay totaled seven shots on goal compared to USI's three.
- GB has outscored opponents 5-2 so far this season.
UP NEXT
The Phoenix will return home on Sunday to take on the Bradley Braves at Noon. The first 150 fans that come to Aldo Santaga Stadium will receive a free GB hat as part of student welcome back weekend.
