Phoenix Continues Winning Streak with Sweep at Purdue Fort Wayne

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Green Bay volleyball team secured a 3-0 sweep  over the Purdue Fort Wayne Mastodons Tuesday on the road to secure their eighth-straight win.

The victory improved GB's record to 13-5 overall and 4-0 in Horizon play. The Phoenix currently sits at the top of the Horizon League standings.

The Phoenix attack was paced by Tiffany Paalman, who finished with 13 kills on the day, finishing with a hitting percentage of .520, and by Alexandra Zakutney, who had 11 while hitting .269. The Phoenix got 12 digs from Annelise Sparks to lead them defensively.

HOW IT HAPPENED

SET 1 | The Phoenix grabbed the first set 25-21 helped by a solid showing on the attacking side. Green Bay registered a .333 attack percentage with 13 kills in the set victory. After the lead changed hands six times, the Phoenix took control for good at 21-20 and rode that advantage to the set win. Green Bay also supplemented their offense with four aces in the opening set.

SET 2 | After their win in the first set, Green Bay put themselves on the cusp of a sweep with a 25-17 victory in set number two. The Phoenix led by as many as 10 points at 21-11 before finishing off the set, collecting 16 kills along the way. 

SET 3 | Green Bay closed the match in a 3-0 sweep after grabbing set three. The Phoenix grabbed the lead at 4-3 and never trailed again to win 25-16. GB's front row had a solid defensive performance, blocking four Purdue Fort Wayne attacks in the stanza.

GAME NOTES
» Calli Gentry had a match-high three aces in the win.
» Green Bay attackers were helped by a match-high 34 assists from Calli Gentry.
» Green Bay's eight-match win streak is the second-longest for the program since the Phoenix won 10 in a row in 2018.
» The Phoenix has won 24 of its last 27 sets.

ON THE HORIZON
Green Bay eight-match winning streak will be on the line this weekend at Northern Kentucky and Wright State. The Phoenix, Norse, and Raiders are the only three teams left in the Horizon League with an unbeaten conference record, both sitting at 2-0.
