GREEN BAY, Wis. – Green Bay men's soccer led with under 20 seconds to go, but the Detroit Mercy Titans scored in the final moments to notch a 1-1 draw. The tie is significant for both teams in the Horizon League standings, as UDM and GB each garnered a point in the league standings
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Phoenix (3-2-3) had possession for most of the opening half, and it showed by outshooting the Titans (1-3-4) six to three, including three shots to one on goal. However, it remained scoreless going to intermission.
Keegan Walker scored his first collegiate goal in the 54th minute on an assist from Luca Contestabile to put the Phoenix up 1-0. The Titans attacked late and it looked like the game was under wraps after Hesron Barry skied the ball out of bounds for a corner kick with 30 seconds remaining. However, the Titan's Samory Powder lifted the corner kick into the box, and Guershom Sylvain was there to head the ball into the net, tying the game at one with 10 seconds left.
GAME NOTES
- Green Bay tripled the Titans in shots (15-5).
- Detroit Mercy had eight corners to GB's two.
- Josh Johansen led the Phoenix with four shots in 72 minutes.
UP NEXT
Green Bay will have a chance to put this draw behind them on Saturday when they travel to Highland Heights, Kentucky to take on Northern Kentucky. The game will kickoff at 2 p.m. CST.
