The Phoenix is 5-23-4 against the Titans; however, they have won three of the past four meetings while outscoring DMU 6-2 in the last five contests. Green Bay is 1-15-2 at Detroit Mercy but has strung together two good outings the previous two times they've visited Motown, winning 1-0 in 2017 and drawing in 2019.
ABOUT THE TITANS
Steve Shelton is in his fourth year as the head coach of the Detroit Mercy program. The Titans are coming off a disappointing 2021 season but are currently fifth in the Horizon League with six points through four games.
Sophia Blankenship leads DMU with three goals scored. Overall, the Titan offense is balanced, with seven different players finding the back of the net so far. Abbey Lodato and Julie Ann Piechocki have notched two goals each. Piechocki paces Detroit Mercy with 20 shots, but Blankenship has tallied a team-leading nine shots on goal.
THE GREEN BAY WAY
Green Bay's defense has kept them in almost every game this season, allowing just 1.78 goals per contest. The Phoenix has had its way in recent meetings against DMU. In the last five contests against Detroit Mercy, GB has a 3-1-1 record while notching three shutouts and outscoring the Titans 6-2. GB's defense has allowed just 11 shots (three on goal) in the last two games versus DMU.
ON THE HORIZON
The Phoenix are 0-1-2 through their first three games in conference play, and with a win on Saturday, GB can jump into sixth place. Green Bay has opened up HL play with a 0-0 tie against Robert Morris and Oakland. The lone loss came against Wright State on September 22, with the Raiders currently in first place. The Phoenix was selected to finish fifth in the conference after finishing fourth last season.
NEW PHOENIX FACES
Katelyn Fishnick, Zoey Pagels, and Sierra Morgano, three of the freshmen, highlight the 2022 recruiting class. Fishnick was a WSCA First Team All-State member, Pagels was the WSCA Player of the Year in 2022, and Morgano became a U.S. Youth Soccer National Champion in 2022. Fishnick has started eight of GB's nine games while notching the second-most shots (11). Morgano, a defender, has started all nine games and tallied 810 minutes.
