GREEN BAY, Wis. - Five Phoenix were in double figures, but it wasn't enough as the Green Bay men's basketball team fell to Wright State 99-67 Thursday night at the Resch Center.
Cade Meyer paced Green Bay (2-16, 1-6 HL) with 13 points. Garren Davis and Zae Blake added 12 points, while Randy Tucker (11 pts.) and Brock Heffner (10 pts.) were the other two to reach double figures.
Wright State was led by Brandon Noel, who poured in 32 points. He doubled the output of the next leading scorer, Trey Calvin, who had 16 points. Former Green Bay player Amari Davis chipped in with 15.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Green Bay fell behind 19-8 quickly, and Wright State expanded their lead to as much as 16 at 36-20 with 5:49 left in the opening half. However, the Phoenix would slowly chip away, eventually cutting the deficit to single digits at 42-33 with 1:07 remaining in the first half. Both teams would miss shots in the final minute, and GB would go into intermission down by nine. Garren Davis had a solid half, tallying eight points, two steals, two rebounds, and an assist.
Both squads had a slower start in the second half, but the Raiders started to pull away fast, turning their nine-point lead to 17 at 63-46 with 12:15 remaining in regulation. The Phoenix had almost no answers for WSU, racking up 64 points in the paint. Noel had 14 points in the lane in the second frame alone and tallied an additional four points from the charity stripe. An Amari Davis and-one was seemingly the dagger with 9:18 to play, extending the Wright State lead to 20 for the first time. Green Bay showed some fight, but Noel and the Raiders' offense was too hot to handle in the 99-67 loss.
GAME NOTES
» Meyer scored in double figures for the 11th time this season and 23rd time in his young career.
» Clarence Cummings III recorded a team-high seven rebounds and four assists.
» Garren Davis was active on defense, tallying two steals for the fifth time this season.
