GREEN BAY, Wis. - The Green Bay men's basketball struggled offensively Saturday evening and fell to Northern Kentucky, 74-53.
The Phoenix (2-17, 1-7 HL) was led by Randy Tucker's 14 points. Tucker and Nate Jenkins had a team-leading five rebounds.
Marques Warrick paced the Norse with 21 points while Chris Brandon finished with 16 points and 11 rebounds.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Green Bay kept pace with NKU's high-scoring offense in the opening half, tying the game at 20 after Tucker knocked down a trey with 7:37 to go in the first half. From there, the Norse were seemingly unstoppable. NKU ended the half by shooting 6-of-11 and going on a 19-5 run, sending the Phoenix into the break with a 14-point deficit.
Northern Kentucky kept widening its lead after intermission, constructing a 51-33 advantage before Green Bay went on a 6-0 run, finished off by Tucker's three, shrinking the deficit to 51-39 with 13:06 to go in the contest. However, the Norse had a response, answering with a 12-5 run capped by a Chris Brandon layup to make it 63-44 with 4:47 to go. The Norse maintained that lead and took the game 74-53.
GAME NOTES
» Clarence Cummings III, Cade Meyer, and Davis were the other three GB players to reach double figures.
» Meyer registered a team-high two blocks.
» Nate Jenkins and Zae Blake each had two steals.
