Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Heffner's Career-High Not Enough in 86-70 Loss to Youngstown State

GREEN BAY, Wis. - Brock Heffner had a career-high 24 points, but it wasn't enough in the 70-86 loss Thursday night at the Resch Center.

Green Bay (2-18, 1-8 HL) also had solid contributions from Garren Davis, who scored 17 points, and Clarence Cummings III, who tallied 14 points. Heffner shot 11-of-19 from the field, nearly doubling both his single-game field goals made and attempted.

Dwayne Cohill led Youngstown State with 26 points. He was one of four Penguins to reach double figures alongside Malek Green (17 points), Adrian Nelson (15 points), and Brandon Rush (10 points).

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Penguins jumped out to an early 11-0 lead in the first four minutes of the game. After taking a timeout, the Phoenix rallied back, trailing only 19-12 at the midway point of the half. From there, Davis and Heffner took over, bringing GB to within one possession with four minutes to go, 27-30. After that, defense took over for both teams, and Green Bay went to the locker room trailing 32-37.

The Phoenix struggled to start the second half, scoring four points in the first eight minutes of the first half. In that time, the Penguins built a 26-point advantage. Despite picking up its offensive production, Green Bay fell behind by as many as 30 points in the second half. However, the momentum shifted in the final six minutes, as five different Phoenix players scored to whittle the gap down to as low as 14. A last-second tip-in by YSU resulted in a final score of 86-70.
