GREEN BAY, Wis. - On Wednesday morning, Green Bay softball head coach Sara Kubuske announced the addition of Mary Bean as the program's assistant coach.

"I am excited to welcome Coach Bean to the Phoenix Softball family," Kubuske said. "Coach Bean emerged as a top candidate who has a passion for the game of softball.  She has a focus on giving our student-athletes a great experience along with helping them grow into strong women. I am excited to work alongside Coach Bean as we strive to continue to put Green Bay softball on the map."  

Bean is a recent graduate of the University of Southern Indiana, and played four years on the Screaming Eagles' softball team. Bean was a four-year starter on the team, a three-time Academic All-GLVC honors recipient, and received the Brother James Gaffney Distinguished Scholar Award. She started 164 games for the Screaming Eagles over her career, including all 62 games her senior season. Bean graduated from USI with a bachelor's degree in Exercise Science (Pre-Physical Therapy).

"I am incredibly honored to be the assistant softball coach here at UWGB," Bean added. "It's a wonderful opportunity to be with a team with such great potential." 

The Schaumburg, Ill. native graduated from Hoffman Estates High School, where she earned letters in basketball, softball, and volleyball. Bean competed on a travel ball team where she helped the team to the 2017 16U USA Silver Hawks National Qualifier Championship.

Green Bay kicks of its season on Friday Feb. 10-12 at the Incarnate Word Invitational in San Antonio, Texas. GB's first game is Friday, Feb. 10 at 10 a.m. against Grand Canyon.
