DAYTON, Ohio --The Green Bay women's basketball team secured their eighth-straight win Thursday night at Wright State, 72-51.
The Phoenix (11-3, 4-1) had four players score in double figures, led by Sydney Levy, who nearly had another double-double with 19 points and nine rebounds. Jasmine Kondrakiewicz tacked on 16 points, eight rebounds, and two steals, and Bailey Butler and Maddy Schreiber chipped in with 13 and 10 points respectively.
Led by Kondrakiewicz's four offensive rebounds, Green Bay did a great job crashing the offensive glass, pulling down 16 boards that resulted in 14 second-chance points. The Phoenix out-rebounded the Raiders 43-17 overall.
The Green Bay defense held Wright State shooters to just 36.7 percent from the field. The Raiders did not get many second opportunities on the offensive end, as they grabbed only four offensive rebounds and scored zero second-chance points while Green Bay pulled down 27 defensive rebounds.
"We started strong and ended strong," head coach Kevin Borseth said. "We have room for improvement in between but overall a great team effort."
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Phoenix started the game on fire, hitting its first seven shots to take a 16-6 lead that forced a Wright State timeout with 5:32 in the first quarter. The Phoenix then added one point to that lead by the end of the period and entered the quarter break with a 22-11 advantage. Green Bay did most of its first quarter damage in the paint, scoring 16 of its 22 points close to the basket.
Green Bay kept its first quarter lead intact before going on an 8-0 run starting at the 3:19 mark in the second period, highlighted by a three from Butler, to increase its lead to 36-24. The Raiders cut into that lead, but the Phoenix still enjoyed a 36-26 advantage heading into halftime.
Both teams traded baskets in the third quarter, with the Raiders eventually outscoring the Phoenix 19-16 in the quarter to cut the GB lead to just 52-45 heading into the fourth.
Green Bay dominated the fourth quarter from start to finish, outscoring Wright State 20-6 in the final frame. Levy had a monster fourth quarter, scoring 14 of GB's 20 points.
