Volleyball Falls at Cleveland State, 3-1

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Green Bay volleyball team fell on the road to the Cleveland State Vikings in four sets (24-26, 25-22, 18-25, 22-25) at Woodling Gym.

The loss dropped Green Bay's record to 8-12 overall and 6-2 in Horizon League action.

The Phoenix attack was paced by Tiffany Paalman, who finished with 12 kills on a hitting percentage of .286, and by Cora Behnke, who had 11 while hitting .346. GB got 16 digs from Abby Gardner to lead them defensively.

The Vikings were led by Laken Voss who finished with 17 kills. Liberty Torres also chipped in with 16.
 

HOW IT HAPPENED

SET 1 | It looked like the Phoenix might take set number one after building up a 24-22 lead. However, the Vikings fought back and scored four straight points to take the set 26-24.

SET 2 | Green Bay evened the match at 1-1 with a 25-22 victory in set two. The Phoenix had a solid showing on the attacking side, registering a .333 attack percentage with 13 kills in the set. Green Bay's front row also had a solid defensive performance, blocking five Cleveland State attacks in the stanza.

SET 3 | Both teams battled back and forth in the third set, finding themselves in a 13-all tie halfway through. That was when CSU turned it on and finished the set with a 12-5 run to take a 2-1 set lead.

SET 4 | The Vikings finished off the Phoenix with a 25-22 fourth-set win. GB dropped the set despite a solid showing on the attacking side, registering a .303 attack percentage with 14 kills in the frame.
 

GAME NOTES
» Emma Johnson had a team-high two aces and 36 assists.
» CSU outhit GB .298 to .201.
» Paalman led the GB defense with three blocks
 

WHAT'S NEXT

Green Bay will look to bounce back tomorrow at Oakland. First serve is set for 3 p.m. at the O'Rena in Rochester, Mich.
