GREEN BAY, Wis. - The Green Bay volleyball team got their second-straight win of the weekend with a 3-0 sweep over Youngstown State (25-18, 25-21, 25-19) at the Kress Events Center on Saturday.
Hannah Vanden Berg was the lone Phoenix to finish in double figures in kills, leading the way with 14 on a hitting percentage of .364. Ellie Kurpeikis and Cora Behnke were both active defensively, leading GB with four blocks apiece.
The Penguins were led by 10 kills from Elise Moeller and 18 assists from Isabel Schaefbauer.
HOW IT HAPPENED
SET 1 | The Phoenix took set one 25-18 propelled by a solid performance on the attacking side. Green Bay registered a .393 attack percentage with 14 kills. The Phoenix ended on a strong note, with Tiffany Paalman recording two straight kills to close out the set.
SET 2 | Green Bay won the second set 25-21 to promptly grab a 2-0 lead. The Phoenix never trailed by more than five points and grabbed the advantage for good at 13-12 in a set that showcased four lead changes before the Phoenix took over the lead. Green Bay's front row had a solid defensive performance, blocking four Youngstown State attacks in the stanza.
SET 3 | Green Bay then finished off the sweep with a 25-19 victory in set number three. GB started off the set with a 9-5 lead and never let the Penguins back in the frame.
GAME NOTES
» Emma Best had a match-high three aces in the win.
» Green Bay outhit the Penguins .327 to .210.
» Green Bay got a match-high 14 digs from Abby Gardner.
» Green Bay attackers were helped by a match-high 30 assists from Emma Johnson.
COMING UP
The Phoenix will look to continue its winning ways Tuesday when they welcome in-state rival Milwaukee to the Kress Center for a 6 p.m. matchup. Milwaukee currently sits atop the HL standings with an 11-2 conference record. The Panthers are 19-8 overall.
