Jahn, Phenomenal Defense Lead to Draw Against No. 12 Northwestern

EVANSTON, Ill. – A strong defensive performance led to a 0-0 draw for the Green Bay men's soccer team against the No. 12-ranked Northwestern Wildcats Tuesday evening. Tobias Jahn was sensational in goal for the Phoenix, racking up eight saves.

Green Bay moved to 3-3-4 on the season following the tie, while Northwestern remains unbeaten during the 2023 campaign with an 8-0-3 record.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Northwestern set the tone early, firing off four shots in the first 8:25. Jahn recorded three saves to help keep NU off the board. Kajus Kontautas nearly buried the first shot of the evening for Green Bay, banging a shot off the crossbar. Northwestern ensued by piling up four more shots, including another on goal over 13 minutes, but the GB defense stood tall. There were no shots by either team over the final 13:20 of the opening frame, and it remained 0-0 heading into halftime.

Out of the break, So Nishikawa and Josh Johansen blasted shots, but both missed wide. For nearly 16 minutes, no shots were tallied by each team. Before long, it was still 0-0 going into the 73rd minute. From there, the Wildcats turned it up on offense, racking up nine shots in the remaining 17:25. Northwestern had plenty of chances, beginning with Peter Riesz's shot on goal in the 73rd minute. The most notable opportunity for NU came in the 88th minute. Paul Son flicked a shot off his right foot, and Jahn went full extension to make a miraculous one-handed save. Time would quickly wind down, resulting in a 0-0 tie.

GAME NOTES

  • Green Bay did not tally a shot on goal.
