Strong Offensive Performance Powers Phoenix Past Northern Kentucky

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - The Green Bay volleyball team stayed hot Friday night and swept the Northern Kentucky Norse (25-16, 25-23, 25-21) on the road. The Phoenix hit a season-high .471 hitting percentage as a team and has swept opponents in each of their last three matches.

Green Bay is now 11-4 in Horizon League action and will have perhaps their biggest match of the season tomorrow against Wright State, who is in first in the HL at 12-3 in league play.

The Phoenix offense was paced by the duo of Cora Behnke and Hannah Vanden Berg, who each finished with 17 kills on the night. Behnke hit .654 on the night, while Vanden Berg hit .552. Emma Johnson had 40+ assists for the 11th time this season, finishing the night with 46.

HOW IT HAPPENED

SET 1 | The Phoenix opened up the night with a dominant 25-16 set win. Green Bay collected 20 kills in the frame with a .543 hitting percentage.

SET 2 | Green Bay took the second set 25-23 to grab a 2-0 lead. The Phoenix was once again strong offensively, putting together a .455 attack percentage with 17 kills. GB held the lead the most of the way, but the Norse made it interesting late, forcing the set to 24-23 until a service error from NKU gave the Phoenix its second win of the night.

SET 3 | Green Bay secured the sweep with a 25-21 win in the third set. After the lead changed hands six times, the Phoenix took control for good at 19-18 and rode that advantage to victory. The Green Bay offense got a boost from three aces in the stanza.

Green Bay has a chance to grab a share of first place in the Horizon League with a win tomorrow at Wright State. First serve is set for 3 p.m. at C.J. Mclin Gymnasium in Dayton, Ohio.
