NORMAN, Okla. – The Green Bay men's basketball team traveled to Oklahoma Saturday night but fell to the No. 11-ranked Sooners, 81-47.
The Phoenix (5-7) had two players score in double figures, led by David Douglas Jr., who finished with 13 points. Noah Reynolds tacked was the other, with 11 points. Douglas has scored in double figures in three-straight games.
Oklahoma shared the ball well and had three players finish in double figures. Rivaldo Soares led the way with 13 points and five rebounds off the bench. Otega Oweh finished with 12 points, while John Hugley IV had 11 points and four rebounds.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Sooners came out strong out of the gates, going up 11-3 after a dunk from Jalon Moore with 14:11 left in the first half. OU held that eight-point lead when the Phoenix went on a 10-3 run of their own capped off by a Foster Wonders three at 5:43 left in the half to cut the hosts' lead to 21-20. However, that was as close as the Phoenix got, as Oklahoma finished the half on a 15-0 run to take a 36-20 lead into the half.
OU kept widening its lead after intermission, and outscored the Phoenix 45-27 in the second half en route to their 81-47 win.
GAME NOTES
» Oklahoma outshot Green Bay, finishing 51.9 percent from the floor, while GB shot 30.4 percent.
» OU outscored GB 44-14 in the paint.
» David Douglas Jr. led the Phoenix in scoring for the first time in his career.
» Green Bay got four rebounds from both Marcus Hall and Clarence Cummings III.
COMING UP
Green Bay will look to bounce back on Thursday when they host MSOE at the Resch Center at 6 p.m. in their final nonconference game of the season. The Green & White will be off over the holidays and will return to host Wright State at the Resch Center on Friday, Dec. 29 at noon.
