Game Preview: Green Bay Hosts Parkside Tuesday Night

GB seeks more perfection against the Rangers

GREEN BAY, Wis. – Green Bay women's basketball team will host UW-Parkside on Tuesday night at the Kress Center, marking the halfway point of a five-game homestand. The Phoenix look to stay undefeated at home, where they are 3-0 this season.

Tuesday's game will be streamed on ESPN+, on watchespn.com, and in the ESPN App. Ted Stefaniak (play-by-play) will be alongside Phoenix alum Kati Coleman (analyst). Brian Kuklinski will handle the play-by-play on WDUZ The Fan 107.5 FM.

ABOUT THE RANGERS
Jen Conely is in her 6th season as the UW-Parkside head coach and is looking to improve off an 18-11 season last year. Sheridan Flauger is the Rangers' leading scorer averaging 14.4 points per game. Paty Gallasova is right behind averaging 13.8. Lillie Peterson is the teams leading rebounder averaging six per game. Parkside is first in the GLIAC shooting 46.2 percent from the field as a team. The Rangers are also shooting 36.8 percent from three-point range which is second in the GLIAC.
 
HISTORY VS. UW-PARKSIDE
Green Bay is 21-0 all-time vs Parkside, including 11-0 at home. The Phoenix last beat the Rangers in the 2018-19 season, 81-32. The two teams will be meeting for just the second time since the 2010 season. GB first met Parkside in 1978, when the two programs played three games.

MR. 800
Head Coach Kevin Borseth made history last Wednesday night, becoming the 20th head coach in NCAA women's basketball history, and the 16th in the Divison I landscape, to collect 800 career wins. Green Bay escaped the UIC Flames with a 64-56 victory at the Kress Center. Borseth began his career in 1987 with Division II institution Michigan Tech, winning a whopping 225 contests in 11 seasons. The 2023 Horizon League Coach of the Year also needs just 11 more wins to get his 500th win as the head coach of the Phoenix. Additionally, Borseth is 25 wins shy of 600 victories in the Division I landscape.

WINNING WAYS
Green Bay has started the 2023-24 campaign 5-0 against winning teams. The Phoenix took care of business of Illinois State, No. 22-ranked Creighton, No. 23-ranked Washington State, and Milwaukee, all who had an above-.500 record when facing GB. Green Bay went 9-3 against winning teams last season.

MAKIN' MADDY
Maddy Schreiber has been a big part of Green Bay's early-season success, scoring at least 12 points in five of the first nine contests, including four straight prior to the UIC game last Wednesday. In those five games, GB's record is 3-2. She chipped in with 12 points in the upset win over then No. 23-ranked Washington State, 14 points in the upset victory over then No. 22-ranked Creighton, and poured in a career-high 23 points in the win over Milwaukee on November 30. Schreiber led all scorers with 19 points in GB's blowout win over Saint Louis on Saturday.

THE NUMBER OF THE DAY IS 11
The Phoenix has been part of numerous games this year where the contest was decided by 11 or more points. In 2022-23, GB was 21-2 in such games, and has started this season 6-1 in the same category. Green Bay lost to Northern Iowa by 11 in the season opener before beating Illinois State by 26, No. 22-ranked Creighton by 12, UMass by 33, No. 23-ranked Washington State by 11, Milwaukee by 23 in the Horizon League opener on November 30, and Saint Louis by 33 on Saturday.

STEALING THE SHOW
Bailey Butler is the only Phoenix to have recorded 10 or more steals on the squad (22 total, 2.2 SPG). Natalie McNeal and Cassie Schiltz are the next-closest to Butler with nine steals. Seven Phoenix have tallied seven or more steals.

LEAN MEAN REBOUNDING MACHINE
Natalie McNeal has been crashing the boards hard this season, pacing the squad with 5.7 rebounds per game. The fourth-year player from Germantown, Wisconsin is in her second season as a Phoenix after spending her first two collegiate years with Saint Louis, who Green Bay faced on Saturday. Her 5.7 RPG is currently on pace for a career-high. Her previous high was 5.3 RPG with the Billikens during the 2021-22 season. McNeal grabbed six rebounds during the win over Saint Louis.

FAMILIAR FACE
Parkside's Paty Gallasova returns to the Kress Center for the first time since the 2020-21 season. The native of Prague, Czech Republic spent three years as a Phoenix, redshirting during the 2018-19 season before appearing in 25 contests during the 2019-20 campaign. Her best game with Green Bay came on January 19, 2020 when she tallied 10 points against UIC. Gallasova is in her second season with the Rangers.

JOINING THE RANKS
Green Bay is receiving votes for the last month in the AP Top-25 poll. GB tallied four votes in the Dec. 18 poll, tied with Minnesota and Davidson. The Phoenix boasts wins over Washington State, who currently has 29 votes, and Creighton, who is ranked 22nd in the country.

WELCOME TO TITLETOWN
The Phoenix boasts a trio of true freshmen (Maren Westin, Sophie Lahti, and Meghan Schultz) and one transfer (Natalie Andersen, IUPUI). Westin and Andersen are guards, while Lahti and Schultz bring height to the forward position. Schultz stands at six feet, four inches, surpassing Kendall Renard as the tallest player on the team. The Phoenix once again boast a roster of mostly homegrown talent. Of the 13 players on the roster, 10 are from the dairyland. Only Westin (Becker, Minn.), Lahti (Pine City, Minn.), and Jenna Guyer (Circle Pines, Minn.) are not from Wisconsin.

OFFSEASON TRANSACTIONS
April 11: Green Bay adds Natalie Andersen from the transfer portal.
July 5: 11 players are tabbed to the Horizon League 2023 Spring Academic Honor Roll.
July 5: Jada Patterson is named Director of Operations & Content Creator.
July 20: Patrick Bowlin is promoted to Assistant Coach.
August 1: The WBCA ranks GB sixth in the nation in GPA for the 2022-23 season.
August 9: The 2023-24 non-conference schedule is released.
August 22: Horizon League unveils conference schedule.
August 29: Megan Vogel is promoted to Associate Head Coach and Sarah Bronk is promoted to Assistant Head Coach.
September 27: Megan Pingel is named Assistant Coach.
October 18: Horizon League selects Green Bay to finish first in the Under Armour Preseason Poll.
