GREEN BAY, Wis. – The Green Bay men's basketball team grabbed their first Horizon League win of the season over in-state rivals Milwaukee Saturday night, 70-58. The Phoenix is now 4-4 on the season and have surpassed their win total from a year ago.
The Phoenix had four players score in double figures, led by Noah Reynolds, who had 17 points and eight assists. Preston Ruedinger tacked on a season-high 12 points, and Foster Wonders also had a season-high 12 points off the bench.
Green Bay shared the ball well Saturday night, piling up 16 assists on 23 made field goals.
Milwaukee was led by a 25-point performance from Markeith Browning II. He finished 9-of-14 from the floor in 39 minutes.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Milwaukee started the game on the front foot, jumping out to a 13-7 lead after a jumper from Browning II. The Phoenix responded with a 9-1 run to take a 16-14 lead thanks to two threes from Foster Wonders and another from Elijah Jones. Green Bay maintained that lead, finding themselves up 26-23 lead with 5:37 left in the half. GB then rattled off an 11-0 run, capped off by a three from Rich Byhre, to build the lead to 37-23. GB made nine threes in the first half and entered halftime with a 39-25 lead.
Ruedinger opened the half with a wing three pointer to extend GB's lead to the largest of the night at 42-25. However, Milwaukee made it interesting after a 16-5 run made cut the GB lead to six at 47-41 with 12:10 to go. That was as close as MKE would get however, as the Phoenix extended the lead back out to 15 and eventually won 70-58.

COMING UP
The Phoenix will go back to finish the non-conference portion of the schedule starting on Wednesday, Dec. 6 at SIUE. Following, GB will host Western Illinois next Saturday, Dec. 9 at 6 p.m. Green Bay will play five non-conference games before restarting Horizon League play on Dec. 29 against Wright State.
