Phoenix Travels to Chicago for Clash at DePaul

Head Coach Kevin Borseth can make history with win

CHICAGO, Ill. - Green Bay women's basketball will seek to extend its win streak to three tomorrow in the Windy City in a clash against DePaul. The two squads will face off for the 20th time, and Head Coach Kevin Borseth has a chance to become the 16th HC ever to reach 800 career wins.

FloSports, in its 18th year as a streaming platform, will broadcast the game. Play-by-play man Matt Rodewald will be joined by analyst Kenny McReynolds. Fans can also tune in to WDUZ The Fan 95.5 FM (on-air only) and 1400 AM (on-air and online) with Brian Kuklinski (play-by-play).

ABOUT THE BLUE DEMONS
Legendary Head Coach Doug Bruno has led the Blue Demons to a 4-4 start. He is right behind Kevin Borseth among active coaches for the seventh-most wins (778). He has spent all 38 seasons of his career with the Blue Demons, compiling a winning percentage of .667. After winning the first three games of the season, DePaul has dropped four of the last five. Despite recent struggles, Anaya Peoples has been dominant for the Blue Demons. The do-it-all guard paces DePaul in points per game (20.9), rebounds per game (8.0), assists per game (3.6), blocks per game (1.3), and minutes (31.8 MPG).

MATCHUP HISTORY
Green Bay is 6-13 all-time against DePaul. GB has lost two in a row and six of the last seven against the Blue Demons. The Phoenix is 3-7 in the last 10 matchups against DePaul and averages nearly 64 points per game versus the Blue Demons.

WELCOME TO TITLETOWN
The Phoenix boasts a trio of true freshmen (Maren Westin, Sophie Lahti, and Meghan Schultz) and one transfer (Natalie Andersen, IUPUI). Westin and Andersen are guards, while Lahti and Schultz bring height to the forward position. Schultz stands at six feet, four inches, surpassing Kendall Renard as the tallest player on the team. The Phoenix once again boast a roster of mostly homegrown talent. Of the 13 players on the roster, 10 are from the dairyland. Only Westin (Becker, Minn.), Lahti (Pine City, Minn.), and Jenna Guyer (Circle Pines, Minn.) are not from Wisconsin.

BORSETH ON THE BRINK OF HISTORY
Head Coach Kevin Borseth can make history today. The legendary coach can capture his 800th career victory with a win over the Blue Demons. Borseth began his career in 1987 with Division II institution Michigan Tech, winning a whopping 225 contests in 11 seasons. The 2023 Horizon League Coach of the Year also needs just 13 more wins to get his 500th win as the head coach of the Phoenix. Additionally, Borseth is 26 wins shy of 600 victories in the Division I landscape.

WINNING WAYS
Green Bay has started the 2023-24 campaign 4-0 against winning teams. The Phoenix took care of business of Illinois State, No. 22-ranked Creighton, No. 23-ranked Washington State, and Milwaukee, all who had an above-.500 record when facing GB. Green Bay went 9-3 against winning teams last season.

THE NUMBER OF THE DAY IS 11
The Phoenix has been part of numerous games this year where the contest was decided by 11 or more points. In 2022-23, GB was 21-2 in such games, and has started this season 5-1 in the same category. Green Bay lost to Northern Iowa by 11 in the season opener before beating Illinois State by 26, No. 22-ranked Creighton by 12, UMass by 33, No. 23-ranked Washington State by 11, and Milwaukee by 23 in the Horizon League opener last Thursday.

STEALING THE SHOW
Bailey Butler put on a defensive clinic in Green Bay's big win over in-state rival Milwaukee last week. She racked up five steals, the most since Natalie McNeal tallied six in the Horizon League Championship Game last March. Butler is the only Phoenix to have recorded 10 or more steals (15 total, 2.1 SPG). Callie Genke is the next-closest to Butler with seven steals. Five Phoenix have tallied five or more steals.

JOINING THE RANKS
Green Bay began receiving votes in the latest edition of the AP Top 25 poll, released on November 27. Of the 13 teams that were getting votes, GB was tied for the seventh-most with Alabama, tallying six votes. In this week's poll, Green Bay is tied with Texas A&M, Texas Tech, and Florida Gulf Coast for the ninth-most receiving votes (4). The Phoenix currently sits seventh in the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top 25 poll (as of November 28) and is 27th in the NCAA's first official NET ranking this season.

GB IN THE AP POLL
It's been several years since the Phoenix was ranked in the Top 25, despite a lengthy history of being in the poll. Green Bay was last ranked inside the top-25 during teh 2017-18 season, ranking as high as 19th before ending the season 22nd. GB was also among the best the in the country during the 2016-17, 2014-15, 2012-13, 2011-12, 2010-11, 2009-10, 2006-07, 2004-05, and 2002-03 seasons.
