Saloun's Big Day at the Plate Leads Green Bay Past Incarnate Word

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – A seventh-inning RBI Double from junior Sam Saloun was the difference in Sunday's 3-2 win over UIW for the Green Bay softball team. The Phoenix got revenge on the Cardinals after falling to them 6-1 on Friday. Green Bay will return home with a 2-3 record after its first five games.

Brittany Baneck (1-1) got the start for the Green & White and pitched seven strong innings, allowing just five hits and two runs while picking up the win.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Phoenix got on the board first in the top of the first inning when a SAC fly from Saloun scored senior Randi McKay. GB doubled its lead an inning later thanks to a bases loaded walk from senior Tiffany Giese that would score Dawn Pawlak.
The Cardinals slowly chipped away with a run in the third and another in the fourth to tie the game at two apiece.

Neither team would score again until the top of the seventh when two out hits from junior Jadin Justman and Saloun put the Phoenix ahead for good.

Saloun led the way at the plate for GB, finishing the game 1-for-2 with two RBI and a walk. Freshman Paige Hanson and Justman both finished the game 2-for-4 with a double.

GAME NOTES
» The Phoenix out-hit Incarnate Word at an 8-5 clip.
» Both teams left eight runners on base.
» Baneck picked up her first win of the year and moved her season ERA down to 3.63.
» Incarnate Word was led offensively by Avalon Sanchez, who went 2-for-3 on the day.

COMING UP
Next weekend GB will travel to Evansville, Ind. to compete at the UE Softball Invitational from Friday, Feb. 17 to Sunday, Feb. 19. Over the course of the weekend they'll take on UT Martin and Southern Indiana twice, as well as Evansville once.
