Dominant Second Quarter Lifts Phoenix Over Robert Morris

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – The Green Bay women's basketball team dominated on defense, surrendering just 37 points in a dominant 61-37 victory over Robert Morris on the road Friday night.

Sydney Levy paced the Phoenix (22-4, 15-2 HL) with 16 points. Jasmine Kondrakiewicz added 10 points, while Bailey Butler filled the stat sheet with eight points, six rebounds, and five assists.

Robert Morris (10-16, 4-13 HL) was led by Phoenix Gedeon, who was held to 11 points. Simone Morris chipped in with 10 points and eight rebounds.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Both teams struggled offensively in the opening frame, with RMU holding on to a 9-7 lead after the first 10 minutes. Green Bay had good looks but couldn't get anything to drop, finishing 3-for-21 in the first quarter. Despite that, Robert Morris was just 4-for-14 and scored only four points in the final 6:14 of the stanza.

It was a tale of two quarters in the first half. Green Bay started the second period with a quick 5-0 run to force a Robert Morris timeout, taking a 12-9 lead with 7:56 remaining before intermission. The Phoenix slowly pulled away after the timeout, extending the lead to 11 at 20-19 after Tatum Koenig splashed a three from the left corner to make it a 13-0 run. Green Bay stayed hot, scoring 10 points in the final 2:16 of the second quarter, taking a commanding 32-9 lead into halftime. Green Bay shutout Robert Morris 25-0 in the second quarter.

After intermission, neither squad scored for the first 2:56 of the third quarter. Robert Morris would end a scoreless drought of 14:43 when Rebecca Dwomoh drilled a three-pointer with 6:53 left in the third period. Each team scored 14 points in the frame as Green Bay kept control of the contest, taking a 46-23 lead into the fourth quarter.

Green Bay remained in command for the final stanza, never leading by less than 20 points in the fourth quarter. The Phoenix stifled the Colonials, forcing five of RMU's 15 turnovers in the frame. A pair of Tatum Koenig free throws gave Green Bay their largest lead of the contest – 26 points - at 61-35 with 1:47 remaining in the game. GB never looked back in a 61-37 win for their eighth consecutive victory.
