Green Bay Falls to Youngstown State 95-65

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – After a strong first half, the Green Bay men's basketball team couldn't keep pace with Youngstown State, falling 65-95 on Saturday afternoon.

GB had a balanced scoring attack, led by Cade Meyer's 14 points. Meyer racked up 10 rebounds, notching his third double-double of the season. Ryan Wade tacked on 13 points and five assists for the Phoenix (3-26, 2-16 HL), while Randy Tucker chipped in with 11 points and nine rebounds off the bench.

Youngstown State (22-7, 14-4 HL) had an offensive onslaught thanks to five different Penguins reaching double figures. Bryce McBride and Malek Green had 17 apiece, while Brandon Rush had 15 points. Adrian Nelson tacked on 15, and Dwayne Cohill finished with 13.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Neither squad for over the first two minutes of the opening frame, but Meyer's short jumper with 17:46 left sparked 85 combined first-half points between YSU and GB. Youngstown State went on a 14-7 run to take a 15-14 lead with 12:37 to go in the first half. From there, it went back and forth, as neither team led by more than seven. The Phoenix was lethal for most of the first half, shooting 12-for-23 at the 2:03 mark. Green Bay cooled off in the final minutes of the first stanza, going 0-for-6, giving way to a 13-3 run by YSU, who took a 46-39 lead into halftime.

YSU remained hot coming out of the locker room, taking control of the contest early in the second half. The Penguins started the half on an 8-0 run before GB scored its first bucket of the frame to make it 54-41 with 16:50 left in regulation. After that, YSU pulled away quickly, racking up 49 points in the second half. The Penguins led by no fewer than 21 points for the final 12:57 of the game, giving Green Bay a 65-95 loss.

» Green Bay's bench totaled 20 points.
» Youngstown State shot 53.0 percent from the floor, 37.0 percent from deep, and 88.2 percent from the charity stripe.
