GREEN BAY, Wis. --The Green Bay men's basketball team led at halftime but came up short in a 76-65 loss to the Cleveland State Vikings at home Thursday.
The Phoenix (3-27, 2-17 HL) had three players score in double figures, led by Davin Zeigler, who had 14 points. Zae Blake added 11 points off the bench and Clarence Cummings III helped out with 11 points.
The Vikings (19-11, 14-5 HL) were led by a monster game from Tae Williams, who poured in 30 points and grabbed 14 rebounds.
The Green Bay offense was very productive from beyond the arc, pouring in 10 threes on 26 attempts. Six different Phoenix players drained a three-pointer during the game.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Cade Meyer scored six straight points in the early going, and led the Phoenix played to an early 15-14 lead. Green Bay then went on an 8-0 run with 15:08 left in the first half, culminating in a three from Randy Tucker, to increase its lead to 23-14 to force a Vikings timeout with 13:33 left in the first half. While the Vikings answered with two 4-0 runs, GB still took a 38-34 lead into the locker room at halftime. Tucker and Zeigler each registered eight points in the half.
Green Bay went on a 5-0 run with 18:08 left in the second half to extend its lead to eight points after a Cummings jumper. Cleveland State responded with a 7-0 run of their own to bring the gap down to one with 15:47 to play. The Phoenix momentarily lost the lead with 13:01 to go but wrestled it back with a Zeigler triple. They permanently relinquished the lead with 11:44 to go amid a six-minute scoring drought. Brock Heffner scored five late points for GB off the bench, and the Phoenix drained two triples in the game's final minute but fell by a final score of 76-65.

» Green Bay cleaned up on the offensive glass, collecting 10 offensive boards in the game, Cleveland State had 12.
» All eight Phoenix players that saw action recorded at least one rebound.
» Tucker contributed in multiple way, notching eight points, six rebounds, and five assists.
» The Phoenix went 7-of-7 from the free throw line in the first half.
» Cleveland State scored 50 points in the paint and 20 second-chance points.
