GREEN BAY, Wis. – A consistent scoring night on offense wasn't enough Saturday afternoon as the Green Bay men's basketball team dropped a 78-61 contest to Purdue Fort Wayne.
The Phoenix (3-28, 2-18 HL) was paced by Randy Tucker's 19 points. Davin Zeigler added 10 points, and Clarence Cummings III chipped in with 10 points and a game-high eight rebounds.
Jarred Godfrey had 29 points for the Mastodons (17-14, 9-11 HL) to lead all players. Bobby Planutis tallied another 14 points and six rebounds for PFW.
HOW IT HAPPENED
It was a three-point shooting contest in the early stages of the first half, with a combined four treys splashing the net. Zae Blake dropped one in from long-range to make it 10-7 in the Mastodons' favor with 16:50 left before halftime. After that, PFW sprung out to a 10-point advantage at 20-10 after Anthony Roberts drove in the lane for a layup. Purdue Fort Wayne attempted to pull away before intermission, but Green Bay to within four at 33-29 after Davin Zeigler buried a triple. A Godfrey jumper 63 seconds before the break would give PFW a 35-29 lead at halftime.
The Mastodons quickly jumped out to a 12-point lead with 16:08 left in regulation after Godfrey slammed a dunk home on a fastbreak to make it 44-32. PFW never looked back, extending its lead to 20 after a Deonte Billups layup. Green Bay shot 11-for-33 overall in the second stanza but went just 7-of-27 for the first 15:58. Cummings and Nate Jenkins made several triples down the stretch to make it interesting, but it wasn't enough in the 78-61 loss.

» Green Bay had a 35-33 rebounding advantage and had four players rack up five or more rebounds.
