EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The Green Bay softball team split another doubleheader Sunday afternoon, falling in a 3-2 contest to Southern Indiana before bouncing back with a 2-0 win over UT Martin.
GAME 1 | Southern Indiana 3, Green Bay 2
Southern Indiana's two-run fourth inning proved to be the difference in game one, as the Green Bay Phoenix lost a heartbreaker to the Screaming Eagles by the score of 3-2.
The Phoenix got on the board first, scoring one run on fielder's choice RBI from freshman Paige Hanson that scored graduate student Tiffany Giese.
The Screaming Eagles rallied to tie the ballgame at one, but the Phoenix came back to retake the lead in the fourth inning. Green Bay tallied their second with their first home run of the year, a solo shot off the bat of junior Sam Saloun. GB was unable to hold the lead, as Southern Indiana scored two runs in the fourth inning to grab the 3-2 win.
Freshman Paeton Kringel (0-2) got the ball to start for Green Bay and took the loss. Freshman Kelly Greene was a bright spot for the Phoenix, coming out of the bullpen and throwing 2.1 scoreless innings, allowing no hits, with one walk and one strikeout.
GAME NOTES
» USI outhit GB at a 6-3 pace.
» The Phoenix drew four walks from Southern Indiana pitching.
» Saloun led the Phoenix at the plate, going 2-for-2 with a home run and an RBI.
» Senior Dawn Pawlak was the only other Phoenix to collect a hit against USI.
» Southern Indiana was led offensively by Gotshall, who went 1-for-2 with a double and an RBI.
» Freshman Kylie Eads led the Screaming Eagles pitching staff, throwing three shutout innings.
GAME 2 | Green Bay 2, UT Martin 0
EVANSVILLE, Ind. --Senior Brittany Baneck was dealing in game two, hurling a five-hit shutout to lead Green Bay past UT Martin 2-0. Baneck also walked two and struck out six.
Both pitchers were lights out through five innings before Green Bay opened the scoring with two runs in the bottom of the sixth. Giese scored the first run of the game on an RBI double from junior Jadin Justman. Saloun would give the Phoenix some insurance, driving in Kendal Herschbach to make it 2-0.
Baneck made quick work of UT Martin in the top of the seventh, sitting the Skyhawks down in 1-2-3 fashion.

» Baneck recorded the first complete game shutout for the Phoenix this season.
» Baneck limited UT Martin to 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position.
» Justman led the Phoenix at the plate, going 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI.
» UT Martin slightly outhit GB, 5-4.
» UT Martin was led offensively by junior Kaci Fuller, who went 1-for-3.
» Junior Brooklyn Linneman led the Skyhawks pitching staff, throwing six innings of two-run ball.
