ST. CHARLES, Mo. – Behind a huge day from junior catcher Samantha Saloun, the Green Bay softball team swept a Sunday doubleheader against North Dakota in the final day of the Lindenwood Invite. The Phoenix took both games by a score of 6-5. GB finished the weekend in Missouri 3-1 and sits at 7-7 overall on the year.
GAME 1 | Green Bay 6, North Dakota 5
The Phoenix started the with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first inning. Saloun drove in the first run with an RBI double that scored junior Jadin Justman. Saloun then came around to score herself on another RBI double from junior Hailey Heckenlaible.
North Dakota would respond however, scoring one run in the top of the second and two more in the fifth to take a 3-2 lead. The Phoenix weren't down for long as Justman hit a two-run homerun over the right centerfield wall to make it 4-3.
The fighting Hawks refused to go away, putting runs on the board in the sixth and seventh innings to head into the bottom of the seventh up 5-4. Saloun came up big for Green Bay, hitting a walk-off two-RBI double to give GB the 6-5 win.
Freshman Kelly Greene picked up the victory out of the bullpen for Green Bay (6-7). The right-hander went two innings, giving up two runs, both of them earned, on four hits, allowing two walks and striking out three. Freshman Paeton Kringel started the in the circle, going five innings and allowing three runs on eight hits.
Offensively, the Phoenix was paced by Justman, who went 2-for-3 on the day with a double, a home run, a walk and two RBI. Saloun put together a standout performance at the dish as well, going 2-for-4 with two doubles and three RBI. Heckenlaible also contributed for Green Bay, putting together two hits in three trips to the plate while adding a double and an RBI.

» Sophomore Makaela Carr led the Fighting Hawks pitching staff, throwing four innings of four-run ball.
GAME 2 | Green Bay 6, North Dakota 5
Senior Brittany Baneck (5-2) had everything working in game two, striking out eight North Dakota hitters over 6.1 innings of work to help power the Green Bay Phoenix over the Fighting Hawks 6-5.
The Phoenix again jumped out in front early, starting with one run in the second thanks to a RBI single from senior Randi McKay. GB pushed across another in the third and two more in the fourth inning on a two-RBI single that scored freshman Kendal Herschbach and graduate student Tiffany Giese.
Baneck kept North Dakota scoreless before expanding their lead in the seventh inning to 6-0. Saloun once again drove in a run on an RBI double before Heckenlaible brought her home with a sac fly.
Saloun finished game two 3-for-4 with a double and three RBI. Freshman Paige Hanson compiled a standout effort as well, going 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI.

UP NEXT
Green Bay will prepare for some Power Five opponents at the Hoosier Classic on March 3-4. The Green & White will take on Wisconsin and Purdue Fort Wayne on Friday before squaring off with IUPUI and Indiana Saturday.
