Phoenix Drops Day One Doubleheader at Hoosier Classic

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – It was a tough day at the Hoosier Classic for the Green Bay softball team in Bloomington, Indiana. The Phoenix fell 10-2 to IUPUI in game one, and 3-0 to Indiana in their second game of the day.

GAME 1 | IUPUI 10, Green Bay 2
The Jaguars scored first with two runs in the top of the first inning off of Phoenix starting pitcher freshman Kelly Greene. Green Bay cut that 2-0 lead in half in the third inning thanks to an RBI single from junior Jadin Justman that brought home senior Dawn Pawlak.

IUPUI expanded their lead to 3-1 before the Phoenix offense got back to work, cutting into that lead in the fourth with a solo home run from freshman Paige Hanson that made the game 3-2. The Phoenix was unable to get any closer, however, as IUPUI added seven runs to their tally on the way to a 10-2 final.

Offensively, the Phoenix was paced by Hanson, who went 1-for-2 with a home run and an RBI. Justman was another standout, going 1-for-2 with an RBI. Pawlak also went 1-for-2 with a double, the only other extra-base hit other than Hanson's home run. Greene (1-2) took the loss for GB in the circle.

GAME NOTES
» Green Bay went 2-for-5 (.400) with runners in scoring position.
» GB was outhit by IUPUI 12-5.
» Hanson's home run is the first of her collegiate career.
» Freshman Aidyn Messmann and graduate student Tiffany Giese also registered hits in the game.
» IUPUI was led offensively by junior Morgan Gilbert, who went 2-for-2 with a triple, a home run, and two RBI.
» Isabelle Waggner led the Jaguars pitching staff, throwing five innings of two-run ball.

GAME 2 | Indiana 3, Green Bay 0
Green Bay struggled to get the bats going against Indiana, falling to the Hoosiers 3-0. The Hoosiers never had a huge inning but scored runs in the first, third, and sixth innings on GB starter Brittany Baneck (5-3).

The Phoenix had seven at-bats with runners in scoring position but finished 0-for-7 with those chances.

In the batter's box, the Phoenix was led by junior Samantha Saloun, who went 2-for-2 with a double and a walk.

GAME NOTES
» Indiana slightly outhit Green Bay at a 6-4 clip
» Freshman Kendal Herschbach and Giese were the other two Phoenix to tally a hit in the game.
» Indiana was led offensively by Brianna Copeland, who went 2-for-3 with a triple, a home run, and two RBI.
