BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Green Bay softball team outhit Purdue Fort Wayne 6-5 but was unable to push across more runs, falling 2-1 to the Mastodons on Sunday.
 
PFW got on the board first with two runs in the third inning thanks to a two-RBI double from Taylor Warne off of freshman Viviana Guzman, who started the game for GB. The Phoenix cut that lead in half when sophomore Lauren Porter went yard her first time with Green Bay. Unfortunately, that was as close as Green Bay would get, falling by a final of 2-1.
 
Guzman (1-3) started the game and went four innings, giving up two runs, one earned, on four hits, allowing no walks, and striking out three. Senior Brittany Baneck was a bright spot out of the bullpen, going two shutout innings while allowing one hit, walking one, and striking out two.
 
Porter led the way offensively for the Phoenix, going 1-for-2 in the ballgame with a home run, a walk, and an RBI. Junior Samantha Saloun put together a noteworthy performance at the plate as well, going 1-for-3 with a double.
 
GAME NOTES
» Green Bay pitchers limited Purdue Fort Wayne to just 2-for-10 (.200) with runners in scoring position.
» Purdue Fort Wayne was led offensively by senior Taylor Warne, who went 1-for-3 with a double and two RBI.
» Quinlan led the Mastodons pitching staff, throwing seven innings of one-run ball.
 
COMING UP
The Green & White will play their final tournament of the regular season next weekend on March 10-11 at the Blue Raider Tournament in Murfreesboro, Tenn.
