Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Strong First Half Not Enough as Green Bay Drops Season Opener

GREEN BAY, Wis. - Green Bay women's soccer started strong but ultimately fell 4-1 to Kansas State at Aldo Santaga Stadium Thursday afternoon.

The loss dropped Green Bay's record to 0-1-0, while the Wildcats begin the 2023 campaign 1-0-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED

KSU outshot GB 2-1 in the first 11 minutes of the contest, but Grace Miller found the back of the net to give the Phoenix a 1-0 lead in the 10th minute. Miller was set up by a ricochet off Aleah Reesman.

After Grace Downey's shot missed high in the 13th minute, Kansas State held the Phoenix shotless for the remainder of the first half. Meanwhile, the Wildcats racked up nine shots and answered on a goal from Jazmin Brown in the 19th minute, tying the game at one.

Coming out of intermission, Kansas State controlled the ball for most of the second half. Green Bay's defense stood firm until the 73rd minute when Aliyah El-Naggar ripped a shot that leaked through Payton Lang's legs for the go-ahead goal, making it 2-1 Wildcats.

Less than 10 minutes later, KSU kept pressing, and Brown notched her second goal of the day by heading in a corner from Kiran Singh. The Wildcats weren't done yet, adding another goal in the final minute from Jo Sees.

Sierra Morgano was credited with a shot on goal in the second frame, but it wasn't enough in the 4-1 loss to Kansas State.

GAME NOTES

  • Lang tallied six saves out of 27 total Wildcats shots.
  • Only two position players were on the pitch for all 90 minutes: Hannah Savoni (GB) and Jasmin Brown (KSU).
  • The Wildcats had 12 corner kicks, while Green Bay had none.
  • Singh assisted on both of Brown's goals.
