BROOKINGS, S.D. – The Green Bay women's soccer team wrapped up a four-game road trip this afternoon, dropping their contest to South Dakota State 5-0.
The loss moved Green Bay to 0-4-2, while SDSU improved to 7-1-0.
HOW IT HAPPENED
South Dakota State struck in the early going. Jadenn Carrillo and Kayla Anderson tallied the first two shots of the day before Carrillo buried a goal in the 11th minute. Anderson and Laney Murdzek set her up in the box. Murdzek and Carrillo tacked on one more shot apiece before Brooke Ricca recorded GB's first shot on goal in the 27th minute. The Jackrabbits defense stifled the Phoenix for just that one shot in the opening half and took a 1-0 advantage into the break.
SDSU pounded the offensive zone to begin the second frame, racking up five shots in the first 13:09. The floodgates began to open in the 63rd minute when Maleah Evans found the back of the net. It wasn't more than 16 seconds later, just after the kickoff, when Anderson booted the ball into the goal to extend the lead, quickly making it 3-0 in favor of the Jackrabbits. South Dakota State tacked on two more goals late, the first on Katelyn Beulke's shot in the 77th minute. In the 88th minute, Birna Bjornsdottir found an open lane for her first goal of the season, making it 5-0. Allison Steeno had one shot at the end, but the Jackrabbits pulled away with a four-goal second half in a 5-0 loss for Green Bay.
