Green Bay Defeated by Robert Morris Sunday Afternoon

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – Zoey Pagels scored her team-leading second goal of the season Sunday afternoon, but it wasn't enough in a 1-5 loss to Robert Morris.

Green Bay fell to 0-6-2 overall and 0-2-0 in Horizon play after the loss, while RMU garnered their seventh win of the season and first conference victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Colonials' offense wasted no time getting going in the first half, opening the scoring in the ninth minute on a goal from Kaoru Hayashi. A few minutes later, after Haleigh Finale fired a shot, Malia Kearns cashed in to make it a quick 2-0 advantage for RMU just 12:30 into the game.

Green Bay nearly answered moments later after the kickoff when Grace Miller cracked a shot, but the RMU defense and goalkeeper Brenna Murray somehow kept the ball out of the goal. Robert Morris had a plethora of opportunities after that, racking up four shots in a four-and-a-half-minute span, before tallying another goal in the 23rd minute. Renae Mohrbacher found the back of the net on an assist from Elisa Corvalen and Hayashi. RMU put a bow on a fast start with another score in the 32nd minute when Malia Kearns buried her first goal of the 2023 campaign, taking a 4-0 lead into halftime.

Robert Morris outshot GB 8-3 in the second frame and eventually extended their lead to 5-0, but the Phoenix made some positive plays in the final 45 minutes, including Zoey Pagels' goal in the 88th minute. Despite the effort, it wasn't enough in the 1-5 loss.

GAME NOTES

  • RMU outshot Green Bay 18-6 overall.
  • The Colonials had seven corner kicks to GB's one.
  • Green Bay totaled four shots on goal.
  • Lanie Weikert and Pagels led the Phoenix with two shots apiece.
