DETROIT, Mich. – The Green Bay women's soccer team fell to Detroit Mercy Sunday afternoon, dropping to 0-7-2 overall and 0-3-0 in Horizon League action. A late goal helped UDM improve to 4-5-3 overall and 2-2-0 in the HL.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Phoenix tried to set the tone early when Elle Hill fired a shot wide of the mark in the third minute. Lanie Weikert forced a save by Titans goalkeeper Jazmine Scott after drilling the first shot on goal of the day. Despite the early opportunity, UDM would rattle off 12 first-half shots. However, GB stood tall defensively and kept the game scoreless going into halftime.
Hill, as she did in the opening 45 minutes, opened the second half with a shot. Moments later, Zoey Pagels cracked a shot but wasn't able to frame it in goal. The Titans had their first opportunity of the half in the 52nd minute when Soraya Puerto-Khalil blasted a shot wide right. Both squads would trade off shots for just over twenty minutes, but the game remained tied 0-0 through the first 73 minutes. From that point to the end of the game, only three shots would be taken, two by Green Bay and one by UDM. It was the Titans' shot that counted, when Abbey Lodato tallied the lone goal of the game in the 88th minute, resulting in the 0-1 loss for Green Bay.
GAME NOTES
- Green Bay was outshot 20-14, including 6-2 on goal.
- Payton Lang recorded five saves in goal for the Phoenix.
- Zoey Pagels racked up a team-leading five shots.
COMING UP
The Phoenix will begin a two-game homestand this Saturday, September 30 when they host Cleveland State at 1 p.m.
