GREEN BAY, Wis. – It's a gameday edition of Phoenix Weekly, presented by Capital Credit Union! The GB women's basketball team hosts Youngstown State tonight at the Kress Center at 7 p.m., while the men took care of business against IUPUI yesterday. Let's take a peek back at the last week and look forward to the next.

WEEK IN REVIEW

SOFTBALL
Green Bay Softball released the complete 2024 schedule on January 5. Head coach Sara Kubuske enters her fourth season at the helm of the Phoenix and will look to lead the team to their third-straight Horizon League Tournament appearance for the first time since 2014-16.

The Phoenix will have a new-looking roster for the 2024 season, with 12 newcomers and 11 returners. The new Phoenix consists of 10 freshmen and two transfers. To view the complete 2024 schedule, click this link.

WOMEN'S SOCCER
Head Coach Julie Grutzner added three transfers to the 2024 roster late last week, bringing in Becca Stoeckmann, Evelyn Wysong, and Hanna Arvay. Wysong and Arvay come from Stetson, while Stoeckmann comes to Titletown from Memphis. She is also a native of Hartford, Wisconsin. To see the full release, click here.

MEN'S BASKETBALL
The Green Bay men's basketball team took two of their three contests in the last week, including victories over Detroit Mercy last Thursday and the aforementioned win over IUPUI yesterday. The Phoenix bench dominated against the Titans, scoring 43 of the teams' 69 points. GB also cleaned up well on the glass, finishing the game with a 45-23 edge on the boards in the 69-51 win.

GB's four-game win streak came to an end in a close loss to Oakland on Saturday, 73-79. Oakland was able to build a lead from the start of the game that would get as large as seven after a Chris Conway dunk with 7:49 remaining in the first half. Oakland outscored the visitors 8-1 the rest of the way to secure the win.

The Phoenix responded on Wednesday in a standalone game in Indianapolis, defeating IUPUI 68-58. DJ Douglas Jr. powered the Phoenix to victory with a career-high 26 points. Noah Reynolds added 19 points and six assists, and Elijah Jones had his third double-double of the season with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Green Bay maintained momentum after intermission, starting the half with a 14-6 run capped off by a Jones three-pointer to give them a 43-35 advantage with 14:56 to go in the game.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
Bailey Butler was otherworldly in an 86-56 blowout win over Northern Kentucky last Friday night. She scored a career-high 20 points (her previous career-high, 17 points, also came against the Norse), while five others reached double figures. Butler scored seven of GB's 19 points in the quarter, helping Green Bay to a 46-18 halftime lead. GB didn't slow down after the break, and Butler earned her new career-high in points with a long three-pointer, extending Green Bay's lead to 59-26 with 5:29 left in the third quarter. The Phoenix cruised the rest of the way, leading by no fewer than 27 en route to an 86-56 victory.

GB extended its winning streak to seven with a victory over Wright State on Sunday. Maddy Schreiber tallied her second career 20-point game, while Natalie McNeal scored 11 of her 15 points in the first quarter and Cassie Schiltz notched her first career double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds.

A LOOK AHEAD

MEN'S BASKETBALL
The Phoenix has just one game this week, a home game versus Cleveland State. Fans are reminded that the game has been moved to a noon tipoff. The Vikings play at Milwaukee Friday night and sit just a half-game back of the Phoenix in the Horizon League standings. CSU's Tristan Enaruna is fifth in the HL in scoring at 17.4 PPG, just two spots behind GB's Noah Reynolds.

NORDIC SKI
Green Bay will partake in the 7.5 Skate at the NMU CCSA Invite in Ishpeming, Michigan this Saturday. The team will also participate in the 15K Classic on Sunday.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
The Green Bay women's basketball team will ride a seven-game winning streak heading into this weekend's pair of games at the Kress Center. GB will host Youngstown State tomorrow night before welcoming Robert Morris to Titletown on Saturday afternoon. Both games will be streamed live on ESPN+, on watchespn.com, and in the ESPN App. Get your tickets here for the YSU game, or click here for tickets to the RMU game on Saturday.
