Phoenix Overcomes Slow Start, Throttles Robert Morris

Big third quarter propels GB to ninth-consecutive win

GREEN BAY, Wis. - Green Bay women's basketball overcame a slow start to grab its ninth-straight win, a 72-40 victory over Robert Morris.

The Phoenix (14-3, 7-0) had three players score in double figures, led by Natalie McNeal, who had 18 points, three steals, and three assists. Maddy Schreiber added 12 points, and Jenna Guyer chipped in with 10 points and two steals off the bench.

Robert Morris (6-11, 2-6 HL) was led by Simone Morris' 11 points. Madison O'Dell came off the bench to tally another 11.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Robert Morris kept Green Bay scoreless for over three minutes to start the game, taking a 5-0 lead after Natalie Johnson splashed a three. Green Bay slowly got back in the game, taking a 9-7 lead once Schreiber drove through the lane for a layup. The Phoenix, after opening the game down five, ended the first quarter on a 16-4 run, taking a 16-9 advantage into the second frame. RMU climbed back to within one after Danielle Vuletich sunk a mid-range shot, making it 20-19 GB. From there, Green Bay shot 3-of-8 and buried a couple of free throws to end the stanza on an 8-0 run, going into the break with a 28-19 lead.

GB awoke from a rare offensive slumber to erupt for 26 points in the third quarter. McNeal went off, racking up 10 of her points in the frame, helping extend Green Bay's lead to 28 by the end of the quarter. The Phoenix defense suffocated Robert Morris' shooting ability, holding the Colonials to just 28.8 percent from the field and 22.7 percent from beyond the arc. GB surrendered 40 points, the lowest total an opponent has scored this season.
