Green Bay Battles as Oakland Pulls Away Late, 79-73

ROCHESTER, Mich. – The Green Bay men's basketball team's win streak came to an end Saturday afternoon after a hard-fought loss at Oakland. The Phoenix trailed by as many as 13 in the second half before battling back and grabbing the lead with under two minutes remaining. However, Oakland outscored GB down the stretch and took the game 79-73.

The Phoenix (9-8, 4-2) had five players score in double figures, led by career-highs from David Douglas Jr. and Preston Ruedinger, who finished with 15 and 13 points, respectively. The other three Phoenix in double figures were Noah Reynolds (12), Elijah Jones (11), and Rich Byhre (10). Will Eames made his presence felt in the game as well, finishing with three points, eight rebounds, and seven assists.

The Golden Grizzlies were led by a 28-point, 11-rebound double-double by Trey Townsend. Blake Lampan finished with 19 points on 5-of-11 shooting from deep.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Oakland was able to build a lead from the start of the game that would get as large as seven after a Chris Conway dunk with 7:49 remaining in the first half. However, GB responded with a 7-0 run in just over a minute to tie the game at 20 points apiece. The two teams traded baskets for the rest of the half, with Oakland taking a 30-28 lead into the break.

Oakland started the second half hot, constructing a 13-point advantage after one of Lampman's five made threes made the score 54-41 with 12:30 to go. GB once again had an answer in the second half, widdling down the Golden Grizzlies lead and grabbing a 63-62 lead themselves after three straight threes from Douglas Jr. around the seven-minute mark. Green Bay still held a lead four minutes later after a made Byhre three gave the Phoenix a 72-71 advantage with 1:52 to go. Unfortunately, that would be the last made basket for GB on the day, as Oakland outscored the visitors 8-1 the rest of the way to secure the win.

» The Phoenix shot well from three point range, knocking down 15 of 36 long-range attempts (41.7 percent). 15 made threes in a single game is the second-most in program history.
