Phoenix Holds Off Wright State Comeback to Stay Unbeaten in the Horizon League

DAYTON, Ohio – The Green Bay women's basketball team extended its win streak to seven Sunday afternoon after holding off a second half Wright State comeback to win 75-63. With the win, the Phoenix moved to 12-3 on the season and 5-0 in the Horizon League.

Maddy Schreiber scored 20 points on just nine shots, including eight in the fourth quarter, to lead the Phoenix offense. Natalie McNeal helped out with 15 points and eight rebounds, and Cassie Schiltz chipped in a double-double with 15 points and a career-high 11 rebounds.

The Green Bay defense held Wright State shooters to just 33.9 percent from the field, including 28.1 percent from three-point range. The Phoenix also kept Wright State's leading scorer, Alexis Hutchison, to 11 points and 5-of-17 shooting in the game.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Green Bay was dominant in the game's opening quarter, especially on the defensive end, holding the Raiders to 2-of-16 shooting in the frame. The Phoenix, on the other hand shot 8-for-16 and crafted an 18-6 advantage. McNeal scored 11 of her 15 points in the first quarter.

GB was once again strong in the second quarter, this time doing damage on the offensive end. The Phoenix shot 9-for-14 (64.3 percent) in the quarter and outscored the hosts 27-18 to grab a 45-24 lead heading into halftime.

After intermission, Wright State battled back and would cut GB's lead down to 12 points at 50-38 after a Hutchison three pointer with 1:49 left in the quarter. However, an and-one from Callie Genke and a pair of free throws from Schreiber helped Green Bay close out the quarter 5-2 to take a 55-40 lead into the fourth.

The Raiders continued to make it interesting to start the fourth after a pair of made threes cut the GB lead to 59-52 with 6:27 left in the game. However, a made free throw from Jasmine Kondrakiewicz and a timely 5-0 run from Schreiber pushed the GB lead back out to 13 with 3:32 to go in the contest. That lead held around 11-14 points the rest of the way as Green Bay secured the 75-63 win.
