Behnke Surpasses 1,000 Kills, Phoenix Falls at Milwaukee

MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The Green Bay volleyball team hit the road Tuesday night to take on the Milwaukee Panthers, but fell in three sets, 22-25, 19-25, 22-25 at the Klotsche Center. The Phoenix is now 6-6 in Horizon League play.
 
Danilynn Schell was the lone Phoenix to finish in double-figure kills with 12, while Cora Behnke and Katie Schulz each had nine. Behnke surpassed 1,000 career kills in the second set, making her just the ninth player in GB history to surpass the 1,000-kill mark.
 
Defensively, GB had three players reach double figures in digs, including Calli Gentry's 16, 12 from Abby Gardner, and 10 more from Kendall Schara. Gentry led the Phoenix with 32 assists. Three Phoenix finished with three blocks, Ellie Kurpeikis, Diane Pichelman, and Gentry.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
SET 1 | Green Bay built a lead early, going ahead 13-6. The Panthers would respond promptly with a 10-2 to tie it up at 16 all. From there, Milwaukee would outscore the Phoenix 9-6 to close out the set 25-22.
 
SET 2 | The second set saw the two teams trade points back and forth, but Milwaukee was always slightly ahead, edging out GB 25-19. MKE outhit GB .394 to .143 in the set.
 
SET 3 | The third set was similar, with the hosts grabbing an 8-7 lead early and never relinquishing that lead. Milwaukee was once again successful offensively, outhitting the Phoenix .318 to .154.
 
GAME NOTES
» Milwaukee outhit GB in the match .297 to .121.
» GB had seven aces to Milwaukee's three.
» Schell has finished in double-figure kills in seven of GB's last eight matches.
» Gentry climbed the ranks of the GB record book, surpassing Betty Slinger for third all-time in career assists.
 
UP NEXT
Green Bay will return home this weekend to take on Northern Kentucky on Friday at 6 p.m. and Saturday at 2 p.m. The following weekend, they'll hit the road to take on IU Indy on Nov. 8 and 9.
