GREEN BAY, Wis. - Green Bay finished in a 1-1 draw with Milwaukee on Tuesday afternoon. The Phoenix scored in the first half before MKE answered in the second.
Each team had already secured a Horizon League Tournament berth before the game, but with a tie, Green Bay earned the No. 4 seed. GB will host a quarterfinal game this Sunday, Nov. 10.
More information on that game will be released shortly.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Green Bay nearly scored early on a shot by Chris Album, but MKE keeper Daniel Ibarra made the save. GB had three consecutive corner kicks not long after that and came up empty each time. Milwaukee had a few chances until Green Bay took control, rattling off several shots before Matisse Chretien had a crazy tap-in off his left foot to give Green Bay a 1-0 lead. Jesus Galvan-Garcia headed the ball, which stayed in the box to find Myles Sophanavong before Chretien made the nifty play. The Phoenix had several more opportunities at the end of the half but went into the break with a 1-0 advantage.
The second frame started quietly until Jeloni Murray-Powell recorded the first shot, which missed. Just minutes after a foul on Kolton Prater, Milwaukee cashed in during the 60th minute on a score from Daiki Kumakawa. The Green and White had a 7-2 advantage in shots during the final 30 minutes of action, but couldn't come through, resulting in the 1-1 tie.
GAME NOTES
- Chretien's goal was his first of the season.
- Green Bay had a 19-7 edge in shots overall and 5-3 on goal.
- GB had 14 corner kicks, while MKE had just three.
- Album led all players with five shots and Andrew Paolucci tallied another four.
