GREEN BAY, Wis. – Another fast start propelled the Green Bay women's basketball team to a 71-52 victory over IUPUI Saturday afternoon at the Kress Center. The Phoenix remains undefeated at home this season with an 11-0 record inside the Kress.
Natalie McNeal filled the stat sheet for Green Bay (19-5, 12-2 HL) with 26 points and 15 rebounds while tallying three steals and three assists. Cassie Schiltz was the only other Phoenix to reach double figures with 11 points.
Katie Davidson paced IUPUI (5-18, 3-11 HL) with 18 points, while Jazmyn Turner chipped in with 11.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Phoenix sprinted out to a 10-0 lead in less than three minutes and spread the scoring around, with McNeal, Schiltz, Jasmine Kondrakiewicz, and Maddy Schreiber all contributing early. The Jaguars answered with a 7-2 run, cutting the deficit to five after Jaela Johnson rang up a three. GB limited IUPUI for the remainder of the half and took a 25-15 lead into the second quarter. McNeal made a mid-range jumper to balloon Green Bay's lead to 21 at 39-18, but IUPUI again narrowed down the deficit to 14 going into the break, with Davidson scoring the Jaguars' last five points of the frame to make it 41-27 Green Bay.
The Jaguars was not going away out of the locker room and eventually made it 54-45 after Davidson knocked down a jumper. Her shot marked the end of IUPUI's last attempt at a comeback, as the Jaguars struggled offensively in the final stanza, tallying just seven points on 3-of-11 shooting. McNeal was scorching hot from the field in the fourth quarter, scoring 10 of GB's 15 points down the stretch in the 71-52 win.
