Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Schreiber, Butler Pace Green Bay to Fifth Consecutive Victory

Duo each tallied a double-double

GREEN BAY, Wis. – Maddy Schreiber and Bailey Butler both recorded double-doubles to help the Green Bay women's basketball avenge their earlier loss to Oakland in dominant fashion, 74-45 on Thursday at the Kress Center.

Butler's double-double came unconventionally, with the Phoenix guard scoring five points to go with a career-high 10 rebounds and 10 assists. Schreiber led the Phoenix (22-5, 15-2 HL) with 15 points and also tacked on 10 rebounds to secure the double-double. Cassie Schiltz finished with nine points and eight rebounds. Butler's career-high 10 assists were the most for the Phoenix individually while Natalie McNeal and Maren Westin also contributed three assists.

Green Bay's defense held Oakland to just 27.9 percent shooting from the field, including 26.3 percent from beyond the arc. GB on the other hand shot 45.9 percent from the field and 60.0 percent from three.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Green Bay jumped out in front from the get-go, starting with a Cassie Schiltz three and Jasmine Kondrakiewicz layup. Oakland responded with a few buckets to make it 9-5 before GB went on a 9-0 run with 3:24 left in the first quarter to increase its lead to 18-5, a score that would hold for the rest of the period. Green Bay got a great contribution from their bench in the period, as non-starters accounted for 11 of 18 points. The Phoenix kept its first-quarter lead intact before going on another 6-0 run starting at the 7:03 mark in the second period, highlighted by a bucket from Schreiber, to increase the lead to 24-8. GB proceeded to tack on three points to that lead before halftime, going up 33-14 before the break. The Green Bay defense held the Golden Grizzlies to 11.1 percent from the field in the first half.

Green Bay preserved that halftime lead before going on a 7-0 run, punctuated by a basket from Natalie Andersen, to expand its lead further to 49-23 with 3:13 to go in the third. The Golden Grizzlies cut into that lead somewhat before the quarter's end, but the Phoenix still entered the fourth quarter with a decisive 55-32 edge. GB capped off the night with a 19-13 fourth quarter to take home the 74-45 win. The Phoenix moved to 15-2 in Horizon League play.
