GREEN BAY, Wis. – Elijah Jones and Marcus Hall each had 12 points, but it wasn't enough for the Green Bay men's basketball team in a 71-59 loss to Youngstown State Sunday afternoon at the Kress Center.
Both teams shot similar percentages, with YSU coming in at 47.3 percent to GB's 44.0 percent. YSU spread the wealth on offense, with five Penguins reaching double figures. Ziggy Reid and Brett Thompson paced YSU with 16 points apiece.
HOW IT HAPPENED
GB jumped out to a 10-6 lead after Marcus Hall drilled a long triple with 14:01 left in the first half. Youngstown State responded with a 16-5 rebound and took a 22-15 advantage after DJ Burns knocked down a three with 7:30 to go. The Penguins maintained that seven-point lead for the remainder of the half, heading into halftime with a 37-30 lead.
Green Bay started the second half on the right foot, pulling to within three after a pair of DJ Douglas free throws made it 36-39. That was as close as the Phoenix would get, however, as YSU slowly pulled away. The Penguins extended the lead back to 10 and never let GB back into the game down the stretch.
GAME NOTES
» YSU had 13 second-chance points compared to GB's six.
» The Penguins had 17 bench points while the Phoenix had 18. GB had a slight advantage in points in the paint, 30-28.

COMING UP
