Green Bay Secures Top Four Seed with 69-61 Win at Cleveland State

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Green Bay basketball team snapped its three-game skid with a 69-61 win at Cleveland State. With the win, the Phoenix has wrapped up a top-four spot in the Horizon League and will host a HL Quarterfinal game on Thursday, March 7 at 8 p.m. The Phoenix will await to see their opponent after results are in from the HL First Round on Tuesday, March 5.

It was truly a team effort for the Phoenix (18-12, 13-6), who had four players score in double figures, led by Marcus Hall with 12 points. Elijah Jones racked up his fifth double-double of the season with 10 points and 15 rebounds. Will Eames finished with 11 points and seven rebounds, while Foster Wonders had 11.

Green Bay pulled down 40 rebounds in Wednesday's game compared to Cleveland State's 33, including 10 offensive rebounds. Green Bay's defense held Cleveland State to just 38.6 percent shooting from the field, including 10 percent from beyond the arc.

HOW IT HAPPENED
After the Vikings jumped out to an early lead, the Phoenix was able to respond and control much of the first half. The Phoenix found themselves down 10-7 with 15 minutes left in the half, and from there they outscored Cleveland State 26-16 to take a 33-26 lead heading into halftime.

Green Bay maintained that lead for almost the entire second half, stretching the lead out to as much as 15 with just over six minutes to go. The Vikings were able to cut the lead to 62-58 with just under two minutes to go. However, the Phoenix defense came up with some key stops and hit free throws down to the stretch to secure the 69-61 win.

» Jones matched a season-high 15 rebounds on Wednesday.
