Phoenix Crushes Youngstown State, Advances to #HLWBB Semifinals

Green Bay will travel to Indianapolis for the third consecutive year

GREEN BAY, Wis. – An explosive first half propelled the Green Bay women's basketball team to a 94-57 throttling of Youngstown State in the #HLWBB Quarterfinals Thursday night at the Kress Center.

The Phoenix finished three points shy of tying for sixth in total points in a DI contest. GB was also four points from tying Detroit Mercy for most points (98) in a Horizon League Tournament game. Green Bay's 94 points tied a season-high (94 against Parkside on 12/19/23).

Green Bay (25-6, 17-3 HL) improved to 14-1 at home and was guided by Cassie Schiltz's 16 points. Maddy Schreiber added 15, Maren Westin tied a season-high with 13 points off the bench, Callie Genke tallied 11, and Bailey Butler tacked on 10 more.

The Penguins finished the season 14-18 overall and was paced by Shay-Lee Kirby's 15 points.

HOW IT HAPPENED
It was a close game to start, with GB taking a 5-3 lead after Butler splashed a three. The Phoenix went on a 17-0 run, beginning with Butler's triple, opening the floodgates early for a 19-3 advantage. Green Bay never trailed after No. 22's trey, and led 27-8 after the opening 10 minutes. The Phoenix continued its scoring barrage in the second frame, with Schiltz and Schreiber combining for a dozen points (each scored six). GB went into the break with a commanding 53-21 lead.


Both squads went nearly score-for-score out of the locker room. Schiltz stayed hot, tallying eight of GB's 20 points in the stanza. Green Bay led by at least 30 for the entire fourth quarter, cruising to a 94-57 victory.

GAME NOTES
» The Phoenix held the Penguins to only 37.5 percent shooting from the field.
» The Green Bay bench was a difference-maker, totaling 41 points.
» Green Bay had a 38-23 edge on the boards in the win.
» GB's defense forced 16 turnovers.
» Kondrakiewicz and McNeal tied for a team-high six rebounds.

ON THE HORIZON
Green Bay will take on No. 3-seeded Purdue Fort Wayne in Indianapolis on Monday. Tip-off is slated for 1:30 PM CST. More information, including broadcast and tickets, will be announced in the near future.
