Green Bay and North Dakota State Play to Scoreless Draw

GREEN BAY, Wis. - Green Bay women's soccer battled North Dakota State in the team's home opener Sunday afternoon at Aldo Santaga Stadium, tying NDSU 0-0.

The Phoenix (0-1-1) was led by Trudy Quidzinski, who came off the bench and tallied three of GB's seven shots. North Dakota State (1-0-1) had plenty of opportunities, racking up 15 shots but was unable to convert.

HOW IT HAPPENED
GB got off to a sluggish start. The Bison was able to tally four shots before Green Bay fired off their first, which came in the 24th minute off the foot of Hanna Arvay. Arvay's shot was the only one on goal for GB in the first half. NDSU came close to getting on the board not long before halftime, with Ava Stanchina blasting a shot to the bottom left of the goal. Phoenix goalkeeper Mallorie Benhart made the save, completing the period with four total. Stanchina's shot was the final one before intermission, with the contest tied 0-0.

In the second half, Green Bay cranked up the offense. In the 52nd minute, Senah Hanes bounced a shot off the crossbar, which ricocheted to an open Laney Stark, who was able to get another shot off before NDSU's Payton Mulberry made the save. Five minutes later, Rebecca Stoeckmann forced another Mulberry save, and the game remained deadlocked at 0-0. GB had one last good chance in the 80th minute when Quidzinski sent a shot from nearly 25 yards out, but Mulberry was there in time for the save. NDSU had two shots in the 86th minute but came up empty, resulting in a 0-0 draw.

GAME NOTES

  • Five different Phoenix registered a shot on goal.
  • NDSU outshot the Phoenix 15-7 overall and 8-2 in the first half.
