Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Green Bay Falls to South Dakota State

GREEN BAY, Wis. – The Green Bay women's soccer team fell to South Dakota State 0-3 Sunday afternoon at Aldo Santaga Stadium.

The loss dropped GB's record to 0-3-1 overall. SDSU improved to 4-2-0 with the victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Jackrabbits pressured Green Bay in the early going, racking up 11 shots before Senah Hanes tallied GB's first shot in the 31st minute. Phoenix goalkeeper Mallorie Benhart made four saves during that span, keeping the game scoreless. SDSU never took its foot off the gas and was able to open the scoring in the 33rd minute on a goal by Lauren Eckerle. Neither team had a shot in the final 12:47 of the period and went into halftime with the Jackrabbits leading 1-0.

Out of the break, SDSU began the second half the way they did in the first half. Avery LeBlanc found the back of the net in the 62nd minute to double the Jackrabbits' lead to 2-0. Green Bay's defense staved off a few SDSU corner kicks, but couldn't clear it. Shelby Hopeau put the game away with a score in the 78th minute. The Phoenix rattled off a couple shots in the final minutes, but it wasn't enough in a 0-3 loss.

GAME NOTES

  • Benhart's seven saves were four shy of her career-high of 11.
  • Green Bay put just one shot on goal.
  • Hanes totaled three of GB's four shots.
  • The Phoenix was outshot 25-5 overall and 11-1 on goal.
