GREEN BAY, Wis. – The Green Bay volleyball team defeated Cleveland State in straight sets (25-19, 25-21, 25-21) for the second consecutive day on Saturday at the Kress Events Center.
For Green Bay,
Gillian Koning led the team with 11 kills while also having eight digs.
Diane Pichelman added nine kills and two-and-a-half blocks. Setter
Emma Johnson directed the attack with 35 assists, and
Emma Best tied a game-high with 16 digs.
For Cleveland State, Laken Voss led the way with 12 kills, followed by Bryn VanVleet, who had a double-double with 10 kills and 12 digs. Isabella Gibbons tallied 28 assists, and Vayda Delventhal paced the defense with 16 digs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
SET 1 | The opening frame was tightly contested as Green Bay led 14-13 early. The Phoenix exploded on a 6-1 run, expanding the lead to 20-14. Koning had a pair of kills to give GB a 25-19 victory.
SET 2 | Green Bay and Cleveland State traded runs as the Phoenix led 6-2 and the Vikings pulled ahead 16-11. The Phoenix fought back, tying the set at 17 before outscoring CSU 8-4 down the stretch to win 25-21.
SET 3 | Cleveland State had the early lead once again in the third set, leading 15-13 to start.
Olivia Neumann and
Kayla Birmingham each had a pair of kills in the final five points to secure the Phoenix sweep at 25-21.
