Green Bay Secures Crucial Win over Wright State, 2-1

GREEN BAY, Wis. – The Green Bay women's soccer team earned its fourth win of the season, besting the Wright State Raiders on Thursday by a score of 2-1. The three points were massive for the Phoenix playoff hopes, as they jumped up to nine points and the sixth spot in the Horizon League standings.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Phoenix started hot, as the team's third shot of the game, Green Bay scored the game's first goal in the 16th minute from Laney Stark, assisted by Rebecca Stoeckmann. Stark struck the ball from outside the box and curled it into the top corner. The Phoenix outshot Wright State 7-3 in the first half before entering the locker room with a 1-0 lead.

In the second half, it was once again the Phoenix playing aggressively before doubling its lead in the 64th minute, courtesy of an unassisted strike by Senah Hanes. Hanes got on the end of a loose ball and slotted it past the Raiders keeper to double GB's lead. It wouldn't be long before Wright State answered with its first goal of the game in the 70th minute. Ruby Dunlevy found the back of the net, with assists coming from Samara Nunn and Amber Branum. Wright State nearly tied it up in the 76th minute, but Mariela Hartmann's shot struck the crossbar and went out. GB held on for the remainder of the way to secure the three points.
