GREEN BAY, Wis. – The Green Bay women's soccer team earned its second-straight win, besting the IU Indy Jaguars on Sunday afternoon by a score of 1-0. The Phoenix now sits on 12 Horizon League points; three points clear of seventh-place Robert Morris and Cleveland State with two more league games to go. The top six teams will make the Horizon League Championships from November 2-9.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Phoenix offense grabbed the lead right away, after
Senah Hanes scored her team-leading fifth goal of the season. After a Phoenix corner was sent into the box, in an attempt to clear the ball, a Jaguar defender hit the ball with her hand, resulting in a GB penalty kick. Hanes calmly stepped to the spot to bury it and give the Phoenix a 1-0 lead in the ninth minute. Green Bay outshot IU Indy six to one in the first half, with the one IUI shot being saved by GB goalkeeper
Anna Scott, before entering the locker room with a 1-0 lead.
The script flipped in the second half, as it was IU Indianapolis playing catch-up, outshooting the Phoenix four shots to two in the second. A yellow card on
Senah Hanes in the 47th minute opened the second half as Indy's onslaught of shots missed the mark each time. The Jaguars couldn't get a clean look at tying the game, as the game ended with a 1-0 score.
GAME NOTES
- Hanes and Ella Rogowski led the Phoenix with three shots each, with Rogowski's three all on goal.
- Green Bay outshot IU Indianapolis eight to five and led the Jaguars with four shots on goal to one.
- Phoenix Goalkeeper Anna Scott recorded one save.
- Two yellow cards were given to Green Bay, one to Hanes, and one to Laney Stark. One yellow card was assessed to the Jaguars.
