ROCHESTER, Mich. – On Saturday evening, the Green Bay volleyball team earned another key Horizon League victory, taking down Oakland in four sets (22-25, 25-14, 25-17, 25-17) at the OU Credit Union O'rena. Green Bay has now won four in a row and improved to 7-2 in league play.
After falling in the first set of the day, GB responded with three dominant set wins thanks to a balanced offensive performance led by
Katie Schulz. She led the Phoenix attack with 18 kills, while
Diane Pichelman added 16, and
Olivia Neumann had seven.
Setter
Emma Johnson distributed the ball efficiently, recording 43 assists, and libero
Emma Best anchored the defense with 27 digs. At the net, Neumann and Pichelman each registered four blocks, and Schulz added three.
HOW IT HAPPENED
SET 1 | Oakland came out firing, capitalizing on early Phoenix miscues to take the opener 25-22. The Golden Grizzlies held off a late Green Bay rally to secure the early advantage. Oakland outhit GB .256 to .093 in the opening set.
SET 2 | Green Bay flipped the momentum with a dominant 25-14 win. The Phoenix offense found rhythm behind Pichelman and Koning, while the defense tightened to even the match. It was the best offensive set for GB, as they finished with 15 kills on a .448 hitting percentage.
SET 3 | The third set saw Green Bay grab control of the match. The Phoenix executed well down the stretch, closing out a 25-17 victory behind a steady attack and disciplined blocking. Oakland threatened late, but GB capitalized on three straight Golden Grizzlies errors to close the set.
SET 4 | Green Bay carried its momentum into the fourth, pulling away midway through to finish the match with another 25-17 win. GB held a lead through most of the set, but a 5-0 run that gave them a 20-11 lead sealed it.
