GREEN BAY, Wis. – Saturday played out similarly to Friday night's match for the Green Bay Volleyball team, taking the first set before eventually falling in four sets (25-22, 23-25, 21-25, 17-25) to the Wright State Raiders at the Kress Events Center.
The Phoenix was led by a double-double from Kayla Birmingham, who registered 10 kills and 10 digs on the day. Gillian Koning also added 15 kills to help the attack, while Diane Pichelman finished with 10. On the defensive end, Emma Best chipped in with 17 digs to go with three blocks from Birmingham and Olivia Neumann. Emma Johnson finished the day with 39 assists for the Phoenix.
Wright State had a balanced attack, with Taylor Bransfield leading the way with 17 kills. Ella Seegar also chipped in with 14 kills, while Reilly Zegunis had 11 and Audrey Hudson had 10.
HOW IT HAPPENED
SET 1 | The Phoenix endured a back-and-forth first set to win a tight one, 25-22, in a stanza that featured seven lead changes and was tied 11 times. Neither team led by more than three points in the match.
SET 2 | Green Bay then fell in another close set, 25-23, evening things at a set each. Green Bay had five aces in the frame but fell thanks to a strong offensive showing from the Raiders. The visitors finished with 14 kills on a .400 attack percentage.
SET 3 | Wright State rode that momentum and jumped out to a 5-0 start in the third set. Green Bay brought the match back to within two late, but eventually fell 25-21.
SET 4 | The Raiders had another strong offensive showing in the fourth, racking up 15 kills on a .371 attack percentage. WSU led end-to-end, taking the set by a final of 25-17.

The Phoenix will look to bounce back early next week when they host Milwaukee on Tuesday, Oct. 28, at 6 p.m. CT.
