Phoenix Falls in Four Sets to Milwaukee

GREEN BAY, Wis. – On Tuesday evening, the Green Bay volleyball team dropped a hard-fought four-set match to in-state rival Milwaukee (30-28, 21-25, 20-25, 24-26) at the Kress Events Center.

Despite a strong start and several late rallies, the Phoenix couldn't hold off the Panthers' balanced attack and dominant blocking performance. Gillian Koning paced Green Bay with 15 kills, while Katie Schulz added 14 kills and 15.5 total points. Setter Emma Johnson directed the offense with 48 assists and chipped in 14 digs. Emma Best anchored the defense with 24 digs, and Olivia Neumann contributed 10 kills and 4 blocks at the net.

For Milwaukee, Natalie Schmitz led all players with 15 kills, and Josie Noble turned in a standout two-way effort with 13 kills and 13 blocks. Kara Erdmann was stellar in the back row, collecting 31 digs to lead all players.

HOW IT HAPPENED
SET 1 | Green Bay opened the match with grit, battling through extended rallies to take a narrow 30-28 win. Koning and Schulz combined for clutch kills late as the Phoenix claimed the opener.

SET 2 | Milwaukee responded with renewed energy, using a strong service game and a tightening block to grab a 25-21 victory and even the match at one set apiece.

SET 3 | The Panthers continued to find their rhythm offensively, hitting efficiently and controlling the net to secure a 25-20 third-set win to take a 2-1 match lead.

SET 4 | Green Bay pushed Milwaukee to the brink in a back-and-forth fourth frame, but the Panthers closed on a 3-0 run to edge out a 26-24 decision and seal the match. The Panthers had their strongest offensive set in the fourth, finishing with 18 kills while hitting .302.
